2007 WINNERS PROFILE:
Star Syringe Ltd
The South-East regional winner of the International Trade Awards 2007 has saved over a million lives in the developing world. Star Syringe Ltd, of Pippigford in East Sussex, is a medical innovation company that aims to protect people through better basic healthcare products and sustainable development of those products.
All of Star’s sales are international, mainly to developing countries. Its strategy has two facets: ensuring product supply, and generating awareness and demand.
Star has supported United Nations directives on technology transfer to establish a global manufacturing network that supplies national health ministries and international aid agencies with quality products.
Even with a small team, Star covers each angle of the complex private and public health industry, from product engineering to advocacy for safe injection policies.
Last month 14 countries in East, Central and South Africa signed up to a ground-breaking resolution committing to solving injection safety.
